Hi, I’m Yasemin, 

 

I’m a children’s book illustrator currently based in Cambridge, but I was born and grew up in Ankara and Istanbul in Turkey. After finishing my BA in teaching visual arts, I taught in primary and secondary schools for a few years before I moved to the UK. I always loved drawing on location and became involved with urban sketching here, founding the official Urban Sketcher’s chapter in Cambridge. I then started the MA because I wanted to take my drawings further, working not just from observation but also imagination. I’ve been exploring childhood memories, myths and magic in my recent work, and I’ve developed a passion for mixing materials, printmaking and getting messy. When I'm not working, I like the performing arts, boardgames, travel and sailing.
